We have recently completed our design and engineering works at the new Mechanical Engineering Building at University College London.

The main contractor to the works Laing O’Rourke had awarded the supply of the GRC elements to their subsidiary company Glass Reinforced Concrete UK Ltd who engaged our services to provide a full solution for the fabrication of the GRC cladding elements along with all support and restraining systems.

A complication of the cladding works was the fact the GRC panels had to be fixed to a concrete substrate the condition of which was unknown due to the original façade being tiled over when originally constructed. It was decided by LOR early in the project these tiles were not to be removed. As such our engineers had to produce solutions which allowed the fixing of the panels through the tiled surface to the RC frame behind.
